Jan Beekman Darfur Paintings 2005
Darfur Series Oil on Canvas
The Darfuris were caught in a grim conflict that has killed up to 400,000 people, displaced at least 2.5 million and left more than 4 million people dependent on outside aid. Caught by the genocidal violence that devastated the Sudanese region, Jan Beekman painted three Darfurian refugees, to be kept in memory, since the conflict was quickly forgotten in the mainstream media.
